Overview
In the late 1930s, Japan developed a project for a cruiser designed to lead submarine flotillas. The ship was supposed to carry aircraft and have versatile main battery guns. In one version of the project, a sizable hangar, similar to an aircraft carrier, was positioned between the bow and stern turret groups, with a full-fledged flight deck and island-type superstructure.
