Overview
Further development of the operational-tactical assignment for Project 82 cruiser led to the appearance of new editions of the operational-tactical assignment, which was repeatedly adjusted in 1944-46. In August 1947, the Ministry of Shipbuilding and the Navy presented their sketches, and later both sketches were merged into one—with 220 mm main battery artillery and balanced speed and displacement characteristics. A larger caliber would have been excessive, given that one of the ship's main tasks was to fight American heavy cruisers of the Des Moines class. Ultimately, another variant was chosen, the development of which led to the appearance of the 'Stalingrad'-class heavy cruisers.
