Overview
In 1943, the Main Naval Staff issued a task for the design of the main light cruiser (Project 65), intended to accompany battleships and heavy cruisers. The hull of the Project 68-bis cruiser was taken as the basis. It was planned to transition to serial construction of these ships from 1948 and build 18 units by 1955. In 1946, TsKB-17 and TsNIIVK Navy developed 40 variants of the project, including one with 180 mm main battery artillery. During the design process, the ship's displacement increased to 19,000 tons. Ultimately, it was decided to abandon further development of the project, focusing on the completion of Project 68-bis ships.
