Overview
Following the announcement of an ambitious shipbuilding program by the U.S. in 1919, Japan reconsidered the plans for the development of its Navy and gave the order to build four more battleships and four more battlecruisers. Thirteen variants of battleships and battlecruisers were presented. ProjectĀ A was selected to become the Kii-class battleship, and ProjectĀ K was used for the battlecruiser. Construction was meant to start in 1922, but the battlecruisers were never laid down in the aftermath of the Washington Naval Conference.
