Overview
After the United States announced an ambitious shipbuilding program in 1919, the Japanese Navy's development plan was revised: it required the construction of four battleships and four battlecruisers. Thirteen design variants for battleships and battlecruisers were proposed. Variant A was selected for the battleship, which became the Kii-class, and Variant K was chosen for the construction of the battlecruiser. Four ships of the battlecruiser design were ordered. Construction was planned to begin in 1922, but due to the commencement of the Washington Naval Conference, these ships were never laid down, and shortly after its conclusion, their construction was canceled.
