Overview
A Type 1936A (Mob) destroyer, built at the Germaniawerft shipyard in Kiel. After crew training, Z-38 was sent to Norway. In 1944, the destroyer participated in patrol missions, covering the retreat of German troops from the Arctic. In 1945, the ship was transferred to the Baltic, where it participated in combat operations in East Prussia, shelling Soviet positions along the coast and escorting military transports. In July 1945, the destroyer was transferred to the British Navy, where it received the name HMS Nonsuch.
