Overview
The Type 1937 destroyer was developed as a ship with an ocean range. It was planned that these ships would be able to protect or attack convoys in the Atlantic and operate in tropical climates. In terms of combat power, they were to be not inferior to modern French destroyers. The 1937J variant was chosen as the basis for the project. However, in April 1938, Admiral Erich Raeder ordered the design to be abandoned, as it was not possible to combine the necessary combat power, range, speed, and reliability in one hull.
