Overview
Type 1938B destroyers, intended for operations in the Baltic, were ordered for construction in the summer of 1939; however, with the start of World War II, some ships were re-ordered as Type 1936A (Mob). Z-32 was built at the Deschimag shipyard in Bremen. The ship joined the 8th Destroyer Flotilla, which in March 1943 was transferred to Bordeaux via the English Channel during Operation Karin. Z-32 participated in covering Italian and German blockade runners. In January 1944, the ship collided with the destroyer Z-37 and was under repair until summer. During the Allied landing in Normandy in June 1944, Z-32 took part in the Battle of Ushant. During the battle, the destroyer sustained serious damage and ran aground off the island of Île de Batz. The crew blew up the irreparable ship.
