Overview
USS Salem, a Des Moines-class cruiser, served mainly in the Mediterranean in 1950–56, regularly acting as the flagship of the US 6th and 2nd Fleets. In 1956, she starred as the German cruiser Admiral Graf Spee in the movie "The Battle of the River Plate." In 1994, the cruiser was decommissioned and converted into a museum ship in Quincy, Massachusetts.
