Overview
In 1934, work began in Japan on the A-140 battleship project. By 1936, 24 variants of the preliminary design were ready, differing in displacement, maximum speed, and main battery caliber. One of the variants featured a classic superfiring arrangement of four turrets, each with three 410-mm guns. The secondary battery consisted of 155-mm guns in triple turrets. The propulsion system was a combined diesel-steam turbine arrangement. This project was not realized, and its further development led to the emergence of the Yamato-class battleships.
