Overview
S-79 is a Soviet Project 613 submarine, built at Plant No. 444 named after Andre Marty in Nikolaev. In the summer of 1954, it was transferred to the Northern Fleet, and in 1955, via the Northern Sea Route, it moved from Polyarny to the Far East. In the late 1950s – early 1960s, the submarine supported the combat training of surface ships of the Pacific Fleet. In 1959, it sailed to Indonesia, where it was transferred to the Indonesian Navy and renamed Pasopati. In 1961–62, the submarine participated in the Indonesian Operation Trikora to annex the western part of the island of New Guinea. In 1994, Pasopati was decommissioned and installed as a museum ship in Surabaya.
