Overview
The fast-firing 203 mm guns installed on the Des Moines-class heavy cruisers were considered by some experts as an alternative for rearming the Baltimore and Oregon City-class heavy cruisers. Due to the small size of the barbettes, it was proposed to arm several ships under construction with twin mounts. USS Tulsa was supposed to be an Oregon City-class cruiser.
