Overview
In the early 1940s, new cruisers were being designed in the US, intended to perform anti-aircraft defense tasks. They were to have 12 dual-purpose 152 mm guns, a speed of 33 knots, and a thicker armored deck for protection against bombs. After the start of World War II, engineers were no longer bound by treaty restrictions, but the ship still had to stay within the size limits of a light cruiser. The project was not realized and served as the basis for designs that led to the Worcester-class cruisers.
