Overview
The plans for constructing the Yamato-class battleships envisioned the building of eight ships by 1950. At the beginning of 1941, the program was adjusted: based on intelligence data regarding the scale of large ship construction in the United States, the leadership of the Japanese Navy decided to increase the number of battleships under construction. One of the ships was to be built within the Yamato class, and all subsequent ones — according to an improved design, with 510-mm main caliber artillery. The new project received the designation A-150. One of the variants proposed six main caliber guns in three turrets and a standard displacement of 65,700 tons. The project was not realized due to Japan's defeat in the war.
