Overview
The first ships with 343 mm caliber guns, the Orion class, known as 'superdreadnoughts', were built under the 1909 program. Their features included increased displacement and the absence of side-mounted gun turrets. HMS Orion entered service in 1912 as the flagship of the 2nd Battle Squadron of the Home Fleet, where it served during World War I. The ship participated in the Battle of Jutland. In 1922, it was decommissioned under the terms of the Washington Naval Treaty.
