Overview
In 1937, consultations were held through the Soviet trade delegation in the US to purchase a battleship project. A Soviet commission sent to the US established contact with the Gibbs & Cox firm through the US Navy command, which developed a hybrid battleship-carrier project. The Soviet side recognized the impracticality of building such a large and expensive ship, and the work was stopped. If the ship had been built in the US, it would have received American armament and aviation.
