Overview
USS Rodman, a Gleaves-class destroyer, was built at Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. During World War II, the ship was involved in patrol and convoy operations in the North Atlantic, supported the landing in North Africa, escorted President F. Roosevelt to the Tehran Conference. In 1944, it covered the Allied landing in Normandy, then operated in the Mediterranean and the Pacific. In 1955, the destroyer was sold to the Navy of the Republic of China and received the name Hsienyang. In 1956, it collided with other ships twice, earning it the nickname Ram.
