Overview
Initially, it was planned that two more Porter-class destroyer leaders would be built under the 1934 program, but due to project refinement, the construction of these ships was postponed. An alternative to a major redesign would have been to replace the short-barreled 38-caliber 127 mm guns with long-barreled 51-caliber guns, while the ship would have been equipped with a new power plant from the Mahan-class destroyers.
