Overview
The lead ship of a class of three modern destroyers built for the Bolivarian Navy of Venezuela by Vickers-Armstrong in the early 1950s. These ships were intended to form an important part of a new, modern Venezuelan fleet. Based on the Royal Navy's Battle-class destroyers, the class also included an additional 113 mm twin turret in the aft end which was not present on the British or Australian ships. The ship bore the name of one of the states of Venezuela and was decommissioned in 1978.
