Overview
The Japanese fleet expansion program included the construction of two cruisers armed with fifteen 155-mm guns in triple turrets and with a displacement of 8,450 tons. The project was not implemented, and its further development led to the emergence of the Tone-class heavy cruisers. An alternative development option involves arming the cruisers with dual-purpose 150-mm guns with the aim of creating an anti-aircraft cruiser to counter American carrier-based and land-based aircraft.
