Overview
In 1945, based on the design of the Type 1936D destroyers, the Type 1945 was designed. Its design differed from previous projects, primarily by returning to the use of steam turbines instead of diesels. Such a ship would have been significantly more heavily armed: eight 128 mm universal guns in four turret mounts. Despite the heavier armament, turbine-gear units would have provided higher power plant output compared to diesel engines. Due to shipyards being occupied with submarine repair and construction, and also due to the end of World War II, the project was not realized.
