Overview
During the construction of the Project 1 leaders (Leningrad class), a large number of improvements and clarifications accumulated, so the second trio of leaders was built to an improved project, designated Project 38. The main difference from the original was the more traditional stern lines and propeller shaft brackets instead of fairings. The forward superstructure was also changed. The lead ship of the project, 'Minsk', was built at Plant No. 190 named after Zhdanov in Leningrad. During the Soviet-Finnish War, it shelled coastal batteries. With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, it laid mines in the Gulf of Finland, participated in the defense of Tallinn and the Tallinn evacuation, and in the defense of Leningrad. After the war, it was used as a training ship.
