Overview
SMS König Albert, a Kaiser-class battleship, was built at the Schichau shipyards in Danzig. After commissioning, the battleship went on a tour of South America and German Africa together with the sister ship Kaiser. Before World War I, König Albert joined the third battle squadron of the High Seas Fleet. In 1914–16, the battleship participated in covering raid operations and mine-laying. Two days before the Battle of Jutland, König Albert went to Wilhelmshaven for repairs, becoming the only German battleship to miss the famous battle. In September 1917, König Albert participated in Operation Albion in the Gulf of Riga. After the war, the battleship, along with other ships of the High Seas Fleet, moved to Scapa Flow, where it was scuttled by its crew on June 21, 1919.
