Overview

At the turn of the century, the idea of a new type of battleship to replace the classic pre-dreadnought battleship emerged. V. Cuniberti described the ideal ship for the British fleet with 305 mm guns. In 1902, the concept of a ship carrying only large-caliber guns was developed. The design was based on project H, featuring five twin main caliber gun turrets. HMS Dreadnought marked the beginning of a new era in naval history. From 1907 to 1912, it was the flagship of the Home Fleet, and from 1912 to 1916, it served in the 4th Battle Squadron. In 1915, it rammed and sank the submarine U-29.
