Overview
The Invincible class ships could not fire their side turrets across to the opposite side, so the turrets of the next three battlecruisers were more widely spaced. HMS Indefatigable was laid down in 1909 and entered service in 1911 as part of the 1st Battlecruiser Squadron. In 1913, the ship was transferred to the Mediterranean, where it participated in the search for the battlecruiser Goeben and the blockade of the Dardanelles. In 1915, Indefatigable returned to the Home Fleet. The following year, it was destroyed at the Battle of Jutland by the detonation of its magazines.
