Overview
In 1943, "Free France" negotiated with the United States regarding the completion of the battleship Jean Bart, which had been captured by the Allies in Casablanca at the end of 1942. Two proposals were developed, both of which involved installing 340-mm guns from the battleship Lorraine onto the ship. One of the proposals essentially entailed converting the battleship into an anti-aircraft vessel. To achieve this, it was suggested to replace the second main battery turret with twin 127-mm American-made dual-purpose mounts, twenty quadruple Bofors mounts, and other guns.
