Overview
Within the Kai-Ko-Taka AM type, which was an improvement of the Ko-Gata A2 type, the construction of two series of submarines was planned. The second series was a development of the first: the submarines were to carry not one, but two aircraft, and not reconnaissance planes, but attack aircraft. The cylindrical hangar was shifted to the side, giving the entire structure an unusual appearance. Such submarines were intended to be used for strikes against the locks of the Panama Canal. A total of four boats of this series were planned for construction, but they were never laid down because the attention of the Japanese naval command shifted towards aircraft carriers.
