Overview
A variant of Japanese destroyer development aimed at enhancing combat capabilities based on the Akizuki-class ships. The number of main battery turrets has been increased to five, and to maintain an acceptable speed, the main propulsion system from the experimental destroyer Shimakaze has been adopted. For the basis of the small-caliber anti-aircraft artillery, a 40-mm mount developed by Japanese engineers based on captured Bofors guns is used.
