Overview
The fourth ship of the Amagi class was laid down in December 1921 in Nagasaki at the Mitsubishi shipyard under the name Ashitaka. In July 1922, in accordance with the decision of the Washington Naval Conference, its construction was cancelled. The ship's hull was dismantled on the slipway in 1924 — precisely the year the ship was scheduled to enter service.
