Overview
USS Haynsworth, an Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer, was built at Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. Participated in the Pacific War as part of Admiral J. McCain's Task Force 58. On April 6, 1945, it was damaged by a kamikaze attack. In the 1950s–60s, the destroyer served with the US 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean, participated in the Suez and Cuban Crises. From 1964, it was a Naval Reserve training ship. In 1970, the destroyer was sold to the Taiwanese Navy, receiving the name Yueyang. The ship served in the Taiwanese fleet for 28 years. In 1999, the ship was decommissioned, and in 2001 its hull was used to create an artificial reef.
