Overview
The ship was ordered based on the layout of the Brooklyn-class cruisers, but with 203 mm guns. The distance between the barrels was increased, reducing shell dispersion. To prevent an increase in barbette diameter, they were made conical instead of cylindrical. During World War II, USS Wichita actively participated in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of operations. During the war, the cruiser earned 13 battle stars.
