US Navy heavy cruisers were historically not armed with torpedo tubes. This put them in a vulnerable position, especially compared to Japanese cruisers, which were armed with 610 mm torpedoes. If the CA-B project heavy cruisers had been further developed with torpedo armament, such a ship could have received two quadruple 533 mm torpedo tubes mounted side-by-side.
