Overview
The German naval development program of the late 1930s envisaged the construction of six light cruisers—squadron scouts for raider groups. The last two ships of this type were to be built to an improved design: increased size and heavy anti-aircraft armament, as well as improved AA fire control. A radical option was the replacement of all main battery turrets with twin mounts of universal 128 mm guns. The turrets could have been installed in the ends in groups of three: in a triangle with the vertex facing the stem.
