Overview
Siroco, a Bourrasque-class destroyer, was assigned to the 5th Destroyer Division of the 1st Squadron, 1st Destroyer Flotilla. At the beginning of World War II, the destroyer was engaged in convoy escort and hunting German submarines. The destroyer participated in the evacuation of Allied troops from Dunkirk. On the night of May 31, carrying about 900 evacuees, Siroco was hit by a torpedo from a German E-boat, which blew off the destroyer's propellers. The immobilized ship was sunk by German dive bombers.
