Overview
'Gremyashchy,' a Project 7 destroyer, was built at Plant No. 190 named after Zhdanov in Leningrad. In September 1939, the ship was transferred to the north via the White Sea-Baltic Canal. The destroyer participated in the Great Patriotic War: as part of the Northern Fleet, it conducted convoys, hunted submarines, participated in combat patrols, and raiding operations. In March 1943, the ship was awarded the title of Guards Ship. In total, during the war years, 'Gremyashchy' conducted 90 combat sorties. From 1954, the destroyer served in the White Sea Flotilla. In 1957, as an experimental vessel OS-5, it participated in nuclear tests on Novaya Zemlya, where it suffered severe damage.
