Overview
The second ship of the Renown class, HMS Repulse, was laid down in 1915 and entered service in 1916, just in time to participate in the Second Battle of Heligoland Bight. In 1923–24, it participated in the Empire Cruise, protected international shipping during the Spanish Civil War. At the start of World War II, it participated in the hunt for Bismarck and the Norwegian campaign. In 1941, it became part of Force Z, which was supposed to deter Japanese aggression in the Far East. Repulse was sunk by Japanese aircraft in the South China Sea on December 10, 1941.
