Overview
A ship built to an improved design based on the K-class cruisers. Nürnberg differed with more developed superstructures and some changes in armor. The cruiser Nürnberg was built in Kiel. At the start of World War II, the cruiser laid minefields in the North Sea. In December 1939, during one such operation, it was torpedoed by a British submarine. After repairs, the cruiser served in Norway, and from April 1943, it was in the Baltic as a training ship. After the war, Nürnberg was transferred to the Soviet Union, in whose fleet it served until 1959 under the name Admiral Makarov.
