Overview
USS Mayo DD-422, a Benson-class destroyer. In July 1941, as part of the Neutrality Patrol, she participated in the occupation of Iceland. In 1942, she escorted Atlantic convoys, and in 1943–44, she participated in the Italian campaign. On January 24, 1944, she struck a mine but was later repaired in New York. In 1945, the destroyer participated in convoy escort duties to Okinawa.
