Overview
The cruiser 'Svetlana' was completed and entered service in 1928 under the name 'Profintern,' and in 1939, the ship was renamed again—to 'Red Crimea.' During the Great Patriotic War, the cruiser participated in the defense of Odessa and Sevastopol, the Kerch and Sudak landing operations, and the evacuation of Novorossiysk. For its valor, the cruiser was awarded the honorary title of Guards Ship. In 1949, 'Red Crimea' transferred to the training detachment and was later withdrawn from combat service and became a training cruiser. In subsequent years, the ship served as an experimental vessel and a floating barracks, and in 1959, it was finally removed from the fleet list.
