Overview
In 1939–41, Special Design Bureau No. 196 under the NKVD Directorate for the Leningrad Region, on its own initiative, designed a number of preliminary projects for a small long-range light cruiser. The tasks of such a ship would have been to fight enemy destroyers and leaders, lead light forces, mine enemy waters, operate on communications, and support landing operations. Among the sketches was the MK-6 cruiser project, armed with 130 mm universal guns in twin mounts. If cruisers of this type had been built, it is not excluded that some of them would have been transferred to the young Navy of the People's Republic of China along with Project 7 destroyers and guard ships.
