Overview
After the signing of the London Naval Treaty, a discussion arose about small fleet cruisers. In 1936, a design with five rapid-fire twin turrets was presented. The lead ship of the series, HMS Dido, entered service in September 1940. At the start of World War II, it escorted convoys in the Atlantic, then moved to the Mediterranean. In 1942, it participated in the Second Battle of Sirte, in 1943 in the landing in Sicily, in 1944 in southern France. In 1945, it escorted Arctic convoys and covered strikes on Norway.
