Overview
The U-class submarines were initially conceived as unarmed targets for anti-submarine training, but after the project was approved, it was decided to arm them with torpedoes. The bow section was redesigned to accommodate six torpedo tubes. For propulsion, electric motors were used, and diesel engines acted solely as generators. At the start of World War II, HMS Undine participated in combat patrols as part of the 6th Submarine Flotilla. It was sunk on January 7, 1940, by German auxiliary minesweepers.
