Overview
A hypothetical project to arm a Montana-class battleship with eight 457 mm guns in four turrets. As early as 1938, amidst rumors of Japan building ships with guns larger than 406 mm, the US considered battleships with 457 mm guns: one of them was relatively fast and armed with six guns in three twin turrets. The twin turrets developed for this project could have been installed on one of the unfinished Montana-class battleships.
