Overview
In 1933–34, the SK22 project was proposed, based on the Type 1916 ships from World War I. In one variant of the project, the ship's armament was represented by four 150 mm guns. The operational experience of such guns remained controversial: the ship was too unstable a platform for artillery fire, even if its displacement exceeded 2,000 tons. Moreover, handling heavy six-inch shells significantly exhausted the crew. Largely for this reason, the German naval leadership preferred a project with smaller caliber artillery.
