Overview
The Isokaze-class destroyers were built based on an improved design derived from the Umikaze class. The new destroyers featured increased engine power and were equipped with stronger armament. These ships were intended to escort the Ise and Fusō-class battleships. The lead ship of the class, Isokaze, was built in Kure. The destroyer participated in World War I, patrolling the coast of China.
