Overview
Under the German fleet development plan adopted in 1939, light cruisers were planned for construction, intended for use as squadron scouts for raider groups. Two projects differed from the others in increased size and heavy anti-aircraft armament with improved fire control. Thus, all main battery guns could have been replaced with twin mounts of universal 128 mm guns. Six turrets could have been installed in groups of three in the ends, 'stepped' along the ship's centerline.
