Overview
In 1926, light cruisers were laid down according to an improved design. The new ship had a diesel-steam turbine power plant and triple-gun turrets. During World War II, Königsberg—the lead ship of her class—deployed minefields in the North Sea and participated in the invasion of Norway. During the amphibious assault at Bergen, the ship was damaged by Norwegian coastal batteries and sank in the port. Eventually, British bombers dealt the final blow, obliterating the ship.
