Overview
During World War I, USS Texas, a New York-class battleship, participated in patrol and convoy missions in the Atlantic. During World War II, the battleship escorted convoys across the Atlantic, participated in the landings in North Africa and Normandy, supported landing forces in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After being decommissioned, Texas became a museum ship in Houston, Texas, and later the first battleship to receive National Historic Landmark status in the US.
