Overview
In October 1917, the battleship 'Gangut' was one of the first in the Baltic to raise the red flag, and in 1925, the ship received a new name—'October Revolution.' In 1931-34, the battleship underwent modernization, during which the old coal-fired boilers were replaced with oil-fired ones, a forecastle was added to improve seaworthiness, and the fire control system was upgraded. Another modernization, significantly enhancing anti-aircraft armament, was completed before the Great Patriotic War. The ship participated in the defense of Leningrad, firing its main battery at advancing German troops and repelling enemy air raids. After the war, the former battleship underwent another modernization, was transferred to the training category in 1951, and decommissioned in 1956.
