Overview
In 1910–12, Argentina ordered the construction of modern destroyers from several foreign firms, including the German shipyards Germaniawerft and Schichau. The start of World War I led to the ships under construction in Germany being requisitioned and assigned to the 2nd Destroyer Flotilla of the German navy. SMS G-101 was laid down as ARA Santiago in early 1914 and launched in August of the same year. In 1916, the destroyer participated in the Battle of Jutland. After World War I, the ship was interned at Scapa Flow and then scuttled by its crew on June 21, 1919.
